Lexington Unsung Hero Award

An award to an individual from any sector of public or civil service who has demonstrated an outstanding contribution to the Lexington Community through their work, and who has also had a positive influence on their workplace. This award winner is the blueprint of an unsung hero who has made a difference in the city of Lexington.

Emerging Hero Award

An award to an individual from any sector of public or civil service who has worked in their role for less than 5 years and shown commitment to – and ambition for – a career in public or civil service, including a desire to improve their skills and knowledge as well as progress in their role.

Dedicated Hero Award

An award to an individual who has worked a minimum of 5 years in Education, for the City, as a Social Worker, or other similar public or civil service sectors and has made a significant difference in the lives of the people they serve, showing consistency, reliability and a talent for serving others. Individuals must also display a spirit beneficial to their team as well as their place of work.

Lifeline Hero Award

An award to an individual who has worked a minimum of 5 years for the Police Department, Fire Department, Emergency Medical Services, or other similar public or civil service sectors and has made a significant difference in the lives of people they serve, showing consistency, reliability and a talent for serving others. Individuals must also display a spirit beneficial to their team as well as their place of work.

Distinguished Hero Award

An award to an individual from any sector of public or civil service who serves in a managerial or supervisory role with more than two employees and who displays exceptional leadership qualities, particularly in terms of motivating, mentoring and support colleagues. As such Individuals must also display a spirit beneficial to their team as well as their place of work.

Administrative Hero Award

An award to an individual from any sector of public or civil service who works in an administrative role and plays a pivotal part in the success of their organization. Individuals must also display a team work ethic that has benefitted their place of work and the team with which they work and may be considered as the “glue” that holds the office and/or department together.

Community Hero Award


An award to an individual from a Lexington based non-profit organization who has demonstrated an outstanding contribution to the public good of the community. Nominees for this award do not need to be directly employed in the public or civil service sectors.
